Foreday Morning Background
The ‘foreday morning jam is an early morning “jump-up” from the Princess Alice Highway to Spring Garden held after the Pic-O-De-Crop finals Competition. There are two distinctly different types of participants in this event, the organized bands of which there are usually about five or six and a free band whose music truck has been sponsored over the years by Roberts Manufacturing.
The “Roberts truck” as it is popularly known provides music for the enjoyment of the general public who are not members of an organized band and this is done to ensure that these persons do not disrupt the enjoyment and safety of the patrons in the organized bands. To further ensure that the two groups remain distinct and separated the assembly points and starting times are also different.
The organized bands assemble at designated locations between Pelican Village and the secure Port Authority Sports Club Car Park (Insomniacs starting point) while the Roberts truck with its revelers assembles along Hincks street some distance away. Even though we all jump to Spring Garden the starting time for each band is staggered at 30min intervals which allows even the last organized band to completely finish their revelry and merriment by the time the Roberts truck reaches Spring Garden.
Participation in this event by all revelers has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 8 years as the revelers not only enjoy the intrigue of being able to party freely through the streets of the city but being able to do so in the much cooler temperatures of the ‘foreday morning!
Interest in the event by the general public who come out to view the bands has also grown significantly over the last 8 years and it has been estimated that a whopping 30,000 people came out in total along the route in 2008 - A huge number for brand visibility and advertising!
